İlk telif eseri olan Bir Dünyanın Eşiğinde, o zamana kadar "coğrafyasında tek kıta, kafasında tek yarım küre" olan Meriç'in Asya'yı, özellikle "Hint"i keşfidir. Olemp'i ararken Himalaya çıkmıştır karşısına. 48 yılını gömdüğünü söylediği bu kitapta, düşüncesi ve şiiriyle, dini, felsefesi, masalıyla Hint edebiyatını ve uygarlığını inceleyen Meriç'e göre, "Çağdaş Avrupa, en aydınlık taraflarıyla Hint'in bir devamıdır".
