Bu tez, 19. yüzyılda Osmanlı entelektüel dönüşüm sürecindeki kültürlerarası etkileşimlere odaklanmaktadır. 19. yüzyıldaki entelektüel dönüşümün sadece Avrupalılarla artan ilişkilerin bir sonucu olarak değil, aynı zamanda Osmanlı toplumu içindeki cemaatler arası ilişkilerin bir parçası olarak ortaya çıktığını savunmaktadır. Dahası, bu ilişkilerin ötesinde, bu dönemdeki Osmanlı entelektüel hayatı iç içe geçmiş karakterlerin örneklerini sunmaktadır. Bu dönemde Rum kökenli ve Rumca konuşan Müslümanlar, dönemin entelektüel dönüşümünde önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Ancak daha önceki çalışmalar bu olguyu merkezdeki örneklere dayanarak incelemiştir. Dolayısıyla bu tez, Rumca konuşan bir taşra görevlisi olan Melek Ahmed Eğribozî'nin hayatı ve Rum İsyanı üzerine yazdığı kitap üzerinden bu etkinin Osmanlı taşrasındaki yansımasını anlamamıza katkıda bulunmayı amaçlamaktadır. |

This thesis focuses on transcultural interactions in Ottoman intellectual transformation process during the nineteenth century. It argues that the intellectual transformation in the nineteenth century emerged not only as a result of increased relations with Europeans, but also as part of inter-communal relations within Ottoman society. Moreover, beyond these relations, Ottoman intellectual life in this period offers examples of interwoven character. In this period, the Greek-origin and Greek-speaking Muslims had a significant influence on the intellectual transformation at the time. However, previous studies have examined this phenomenon based on the examples in the center. Thus, this thesis aims to contribute to our understanding of the reflection of this influence in Ottoman countryside through the life of Melek Ahmed Eğribozî, a Greek-speaking provincial official, and his book on the Greek Rebellion. |
