(Gar Alperovitz is an historian and political economist, born in Racine, Wisconsin in 1936. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin--Madison with a degree in American history in 1959, and from the University of California, Berkeley with an M.A. in economics in 1960. He was awarded a Marshall scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in political economy at the London School of Economics, and later he transferred to Cambridge University.
