Summary: Methods for encouraging positive worker attitude and behavior toward change were examined to provide a basis for re-evaluation of current policies and programs relating to introduction of technological changes. The literature reviewed is presented in sections of: (1) "The Worker and the Occupational System," by Claude Durand, (2) "The Worker and the Organisational System," by Alfred Willener, (3) "The Worker and the Decision-Making System," by Alain Touraine, and (4) "The Worker and the Community," by Daniel Pecaut. Some general conclusions were: (1) A change is rarely an event which can be isolated, (2) It is difficult to separate changes in work from evolution of work, or attitudes toward change from changes in attitudes, (3) Industrial evolution involves a greater autonomy by workers of the problems of execution, organization, and direction of work, (4) The study of workers' attitude with regard to change is inceptible to a more general analysis of policies of management, and (5) The nature, causes, and consequences of a change should be known by all those who undergo or participate in it. A 13-page bibliography is included. (DM)
