Part I - Energy and carbon dioxide: Matter -- Energy versus carbon dioxide in the nutrition of human beings -- Energy versus carbon dioxide in the nutrition of other living beings -- Energy from carbon dioxide for feeding plants and trees -- Flora and fauna have opposite carbon dioxide cycles -- Carbon dioxide, the greenhouse effect and the warming of the Earth's atmosphere -- Part II - Causers of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions: Automobiles with internal combustion engines say no, airplanes don't? -- Do we also electrify cruise ships and tankers? -- The true energy guzzlers -- Electric motors instead of internal combustion engines do not solve the problems -- Part III - Energy without carbon dioxide: The hope-bearers at first: photovoltaics, wind, water -- The last weapon: nuclear power -- The energetic water cycle: nature – electrolysis – machine – nature -- The energetic carbon dioxide cycle: nature – photosynthesis – machine – nature -- Part IV - Energy using carbon dioxide: Carbon dioxide-devouring thermal engines -- Heat, electricity and fuel from waste -- Heat, electricity and fuel from biogas -- Heat from wastewater and super-efficient combustion engines with biofood.-Synopsis of the theses.
This book is focussed on forms of energy for the future, while maintaining climate neutrality, partly by drastically reducing, partly by recycling the resulting carbon dioxide emissions. Electric drive of cars and machines instead of combustion engines do not solve the conflict between energy and carbon dioxide, more efficient ways are described. The book presents hopeful forms of energy conversion without carbon dioxide such as photovoltaics, wind power and hydropower, with their advantages, but also with their disadvantages. More promissing is the energy generation maintaining climate neutrality: The water cycle nature-electrolysis-machine-nature is compared with the carbon dioxide cycle nature- photosynthesis in plant-machine-nature. The results of this analysis are largely surprising from such perspective. He teaches in many Universities worldwide on energy conversion and application in technical systems, as well as on alternative propulsion systems for automobiles. His research areas include thermodynamic processes, combustion, alternative propulsion, biofuels, energy management. Cornel Stan is the author of numerous books and scientific papers, published in several languages. Professor Stan is Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International).
